Laser Doppler anemometry (Albrecht et al., 2003; Strunck et al., 2004) is based on the well-known principle that a moving source emitting or reflecting a wave generates a frequency shift. A number of different configurations exist but the most used is the differential Doppler, also called fringe mode.

The particles within the flow pass through interference fringes created by interaction between two coherent laser beams. Durst, F. and Zaré, M. Laser Doppler Velocimetry LDV What is LDV and working principle of laser doppler velocimetry What is Laser Doppler Velocimetry LDV? Laser Doppler velocimetry LDV, also called laser Doppler anemometry, is a technique used to detect the speed of a fluid using laser light. It evaluates the change in wavelength or frequency of the photons that “hit” the moving corpuscles.

Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA), also known as Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV), is an optical technique ideal for non-intrusive 1D, 2D, and 3D point measurement of velocity and turbulence distribution in both free flows and internal flows. Researchers in science and industry use our LDA systems to gain a clearer Laser Doppler Anemometry [LDA] The concept of a Doppler shift is familiar to us from the downshift in pitch that we hear as a siren moves towards and then away from us. The faster the moving source of sound, the greater the shift in frequency. This effect is also observed with light. Operation of Laser Doppler anemometer 1. The laser source sends a beam that is divided by a beam splitter into two beams.
